Sports betting world incrementally integrating into sports

Since the Supreme Court struck down sports betting prohibition in ’18, gambling has steadily increased in the U.S. with teams and leagues jumping on major sponsorships with established brands such as MGM and Caesars. The Detroit Tigers made MLB history by becoming the first team to sign a betting partner in ’19, agreeing to a multiyear partnership with PointsBet. MGM has been the official casino, entertainment and gaming partner of baseball since ‘18. The NBA loosened its restrictions on betting sponsorships in ’20 to help teams limit pandemic-related losses. In February ’22, the Bucks became the latest NBA team to sign a gambling sponsorship, agreeing to terms with Betway, designating the betting company the “first online gaming partner of the team.” The Canadian side of NHL joined the fray last month by striking a multiyear deal with Ontario Lottery and Gaming Corp.
