Reigning MVPs present tremendous marketability for sponsors

Last year’s AL MVP Shohei Ohtani became an ambassador of FTX in November through a long-term deal in which he will be paid via equity and cryptocurrency. The All-Star two-way player – so unique MLB had to change its DH rules last week – also has deals with Japan Airways, Seiko and other Asian brands.  

NL MVP Bryce Harper joins Ohtani on the list of Fanatics partners after signing a multiyear deal last Thursday, agreeing to regular signing sessions that will provide a steady supply of memorabilia and game-used equipment. As a 21-year-old in 2014, Harper commercialized his signature eye-black look and acquired a minority stake in WarriorBlack.
